ARTIST STATEMENT
Art has always been a passion of mine from a very early age. I've always enjoyed the fact of creating something and having it be my very own. Explaining something through my eyes and saying what I want. As a young child, I was shy and didn't speak as much, but I would draw it out when something was to be told. In my family, we have many members who also have a creative mindset, in which art was never looked down upon. It just uplifted me to do what my creative soul desired.
Throughout the years, I have ventured through many different mediums, but the ones I enjoy the most are painting with acrylic & watercolor, drawing, and printmaking. In my work, I like to speak about what is important to me at that moment. Talking about personal topics that I feel need to be said about that make up my most important aspects, such as being a mixed woman and experiencing the feelings I have held within myself for many years that felt impossible to express. Also, speaking about the people and environment around me plays a vital role because they all impact my thoughts during times of growth. Suppose that is painting portraits of family members or people of influence who inspire me, reminiscing on memories that I wish I could relive, or even creating something based on my emotions. I enjoy giving pride to those who inspire me and impact who I am now! That is what I choose to make and always have.
My main goal is to have people realize art is a creative experience that we all can do, even if we think we are good or bad at it. Expressing ourselves is not only a great way of creating, but also it's great to learn about who we are and where we want to be in time. So whenever someone looks at my work, I want to show the progress, the errors, and the best parts. I want people to see all the little aspects of me in my work! I want to continue to express all things seen through my eyes and share all things necessary to me as time goes on!
